Model History and Information: The Cat 24M was one of Caterpillar's largest motor graders before the newer Cat 24 replaced it, built for heavy grading and maintenance of large mine haul roads and major earthworks. It ran on a Cat C18 ACERT engine, an 18.1-liter six-cylinder rated by Caterpillar at a base net power of 533 hp (397 kW), and carried a 7.3-meter (24-foot) moldboard on a gross operating weight Caterpillar lists near 145,000 lb. Its long moldboard, high horsepower, and heavy frame let it move and shape large volumes of material on haul roads and earthworks at large mines. Caterpillar's eventual 24 successor added roughly 15 percent more low-end torque and an 11 percent weight increase over the 24M for extra tractive force, though the 24M's basic mission stayed the same in this 1:125 scale replica.
