Arriving in the combat zone in January 1945, she supported the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and took part in raids on the Japanese home islands. In May 1945 she became flagship of the Third Fleet, and on 2 September 1945 she hosted the formal Japanese surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay that ended the Second World War. Missouri later operated in the Atlantic, was reactivated in 1986, and served in the 1991 Gulf War before her final decommissioning in 1992.
