F-4EJ Kai Phantom II, JASDF, 302nd Squadron, Final Year, 2018
Product Dimensions: 5.25 x 3.22 x 1.37 in.
Model History and Information: Japan's F-4EJ was a locally adapted Phantom II built by Mitsubishi for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The later F-4EJ Kai modernization added upgraded avionics and extended the type's service well into the twenty-first century. Beginning in 1982, Mitsubishi brought 96 airframes to Kai standard with an AN/APG-66J pulse-Doppler radar derived from the F-16's APG-66, an AN/ASN-141 inertial navigation system shared with the F-15J, and compatibility with the ASM-1/ASM-2 anti-ship missiles and AAM-3 air-to-air missile. The JASDF's 302nd Tactical Fighter Squadron flew the type from Hyakuri Air Base in Ibaraki Prefecture until March 2019, when it retired its F-4EJ Kai and moved to Misawa Air Base to become Japan's first F-35A squadron. This model reproduces serial 07-8428 in the commemorative scheme the squadron applied that year, marked "302 sq F-4 final Year 2019" on the fuselage and centerline tank.
