Model History and Information: The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the US Navy's carrier dive bomber at the Battle of Midway, where it delivered the blows that turned the Pacific War. Among the pilots of Scouting Squadron Six aboard USS Enterprise was Lieutenant (junior grade) Jack 'Dusty' Kleiss, one of the few airmen to score direct hits on three Japanese warships in the battle: the carriers Kaga and Hiryu and the cruiser Mikuma, all of which were sunk.
