Model History and Information: The Willys MB was the standardized quarter-ton 4x4 light truck adopted by the U.S. Army in 1941, built alongside the mechanically identical Ford GPW under wartime contracts. Its light weight and short wheelbase made it easy to pair with a matching quarter-ton cargo trailer, which extended the vehicle's carrying capacity for ammunition, rations, signal equipment and other supplies beyond the jeep's own cargo space. The trailer connected through a simple pintle hitch, and its drawbar could be folded beneath the jeep when not in use. Issued widely to reconnaissance, artillery and infantry units, the jeep-and-trailer combination served in every theater of the Second World War and remained in postwar use with U.S. and allied forces.
