Model History and Information: The M20 Armored Utility Car was a variant of the M8 Greyhound armored car, built by Ford from 1943 with the turret removed and replaced by a low, open-topped superstructure and a ring mount for a .50-caliber M2 Browning machine gun. Standardized in April 1943 as the M10 Armored Utility Car, it was renamed M20 within about a week to avoid confusion with the M10 tank destroyer; roughly 3,700 to 3,800 were built through 1944-45. It served mainly as a command vehicle carrying extra radios, and also saw use for forward reconnaissance, personnel transport, cargo hauling and as a support vehicle for tank destroyer battalions.
