Model History and Information: The M4A3(76) was a late-war Sherman variant that paired the welded M4A3 hull and Ford GAA V8 engine with the longer, higher-velocity 76mm gun for better performance against German armor. The 761st Tank Battalion, nicknamed the Black Panthers and the first African American tank unit committed to combat, landed in France in October 1944 and entered combat on November 7, 1944, attached to the Third Army's 26th Infantry Division near Morville-lès-Vic, France. After fighting through the Battle of the Bulge around Bastogne, the battalion helped breach the Siegfried Line and advanced into Germany in early 1945 as part of Task Force Rhine, eventually reaching Austria and linking up with Soviet forces near Steyr in May 1945.
