Model History and Information: The Tiger II (Sd.Kfz. 182), known as the King Tiger, was developed by Henschel and entered front-line service in 1944, combining an 8.8 cm KwK 43 gun with heavily sloped armor. The decals on this model represent schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 501, a unit first raised in July 1943 as the 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion and redesignated on 22 September 1944 after re-equipping with Tiger IIs. Attached to Kampfgruppe Peiper, the battalion took part in the Ardennes Offensive in Belgium in December 1944, fighting in the Stavelot-La Gleize area before most of its tanks were lost or abandoned when the advance stalled.
