Model History and Information: Designated G-502, this three-quarter-ton 4x4 was the U.S. Army's principal dedicated field ambulance of World War II. Built by Dodge on the widely produced WC light-truck chassis, it carried an enclosed rear body that could hold several litter patients or seated casualties plus an attending medic, and was used to move wounded from forward aid stations to field hospitals. About 26,002 were produced between 1942 and 1944, powered by a 230-cubic-inch straight-six. A small number were adapted as radio and telephone trucks for the Signal Corps. In 1944 the tall design was superseded in production by the knock-down WC-64. It served across Europe, North Africa and the Pacific.
