Model History and Information: The Cat 140 is a mid-size motor grader used for road construction, grading, and maintenance. Its newest generation offers customers a choice of two control layouts: LVR, a traditional lever-and-steering-wheel setup, and JOY, with three-axis joysticks that place transmission and direction control in the left-hand joystick and drawbar, circle, and moldboard functions in the right. The 140 JOY made its global debut at the Bauma trade show, and the 140 LVR followed at the Public Works Expo; it was Caterpillar's first lever-controlled motor grader offered with mastless, machine-integrated 3D grade control, a technology previously limited to joystick-equipped machines. Both versions combine a long moldboard, articulated frame, and a new nine-speed transmission for accurate, productive grading.
