Model History and Information: The M998 was the basic cargo and troop-carrying version of the HMMWV family selected by the U.S. Army in 1982. Its four-wheel-drive layout and wide track were intended to replace several light utility vehicle types with one flexible platform. In the 1991 Gulf War, HMMWVs handled transport, command, liaison and air-defence-support tasks across Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
