Model History and Information: The System Enhancement Package rebuilt the Abrams around its electronics. Version 2, ordered from 2006 and accepted into service in 2008, brought new sights, faster processors, colour flat-panel displays and an open operating system able to run the Army's common software, along with a new auxiliary power unit so the tank could keep its systems alive without running the turbine. The visible change is the remote weapon station on the roof, which lets the commander fire the heavy machine gun without opening his hatch. All armoured brigade combat teams had it by 2013.
