The A-7E Corsair II is a single-engine, carrier-capable, attack aircraft developed for the United States Navy (USN) in the 1960s and 1970s. The A-7E was designed for ground attack missions and was equipped with a variety of weapons, including bombs, missiles, and guns. It was also equipped with advanced avionics and navigation systems, allowing it to perform precision bombing and navigation in adverse weather conditions.

VA-86, also known as the "Sidewinders," is a U.S. Navy attack squadron that operated the A-7E Corsair II. The squadron was based at Naval Air Station Cecil Field, Florida and was a part of Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7). VA-86 was responsible for providing air support to carrier battle groups and conducting air-to-ground strike and interdiction missions. The squadron was decommissioned in the 1990s, and the A-7E was eventually replaced by newer aircraft, such as the F/A-18 Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat.
