Model History and Information: The sgSanKfz is the Bundeswehr's armoured medical variant of the Boxer 8x8, built to carry three stretcher casualties or seven walking wounded while keeping pace with Leopard 2 tanks and Marder or Puma infantry vehicles across difficult terrain. The first production vehicle was handed over to Bundeswehr medical troops in mid-2011. Crew training for the type is carried out by the Sanitatslehrregiment, the Bundeswehr medical service's training unit based at the Gaubodenkaserne in Feldkirchen, Lower Bavaria, formed in 2003. Trained sgSanKfz crews deployed the vehicle to Afghanistan for ISAF operations from late 2012.
