Model History and Information: The MiG-19, NATO reporting name Farmer, was the Soviet Union's first mass-produced supersonic fighter, with deliveries beginning in 1955. The improved MiG-19S variant added all-moving stabilators in place of conventional elevators, three 30 mm NR-30 cannon, and a jettisonable canopy. East Germany's air force operated a small fleet of twelve MiG-19S and twelve MiG-19PM aircraft, retiring the type by 1969. An East German MiG-19S from 1 Staffel, Jagdfliegergeschwader 3, based at Preschen, is associated with the 5th FAI World Aerobatic Championships, held in Magdeburg, East Germany, in 1968.
