Model History and Information: The Cat® R2900 XE is Caterpillar's first diesel-electric underground load-haul-dump (LHD) loader, built on the platform of the company's conventional R2900 underground loaders to load and haul ore in the confined spaces of hard-rock mines. The XE designation marks its diesel-electric drivetrain, powered by a Cat C15 engine rated at 335 kW (449 hp) under Stage V emission rules, and Caterpillar states it offers a class-leading 18.5-tonne payload capacity. Its low-profile body and articulated steering suit the tight headings of underground production tramming. This 1:50 scale High Line Series model reproduces the R2900 XE's articulated chassis, bucket, and loader arms.
