Model History and Information: Colonel Daniel 'Chappie' James Jr. served with the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, the Wolfpack, at Ubon, Thailand, arriving in December 1966 as deputy commander for operations and later becoming vice commander under Colonel Robin Olds. Flying F-4C Phantoms, he took part in Operation Bolo on 2 January 1967, a MiG-baiting mission that downed seven North Vietnamese MiG-21s without loss, and he completed 78 combat missions over the North. The 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron was one of the wing's component units. James later became, in 1975, the first African-American officer promoted to four-star general in the United States armed forces. Attribution of this specific airframe to him rests on the model's markings rather than on independent records.
