Model History and Information: The 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, nicknamed the Night Owls, was reactivated at Taegu Air Base, South Korea, in October 1978 and for roughly a decade formed part of the American air defense of the peninsula. Flying the F-4E, the squadron trained continuously in close air support, interdiction, and air-to-air combat to stay ready for tension along the Demilitarized Zone, remaining at Taegu until it was inactivated in January 1989. The F-4E introduced an internal 20 mm cannon and leading-edge slats over earlier Phantoms, improving close-in maneuvering. Aircraft of this period wore standard tactical camouflage. Details specific to this individual airframe beyond its squadron assignment are not independently documented here.
