Model History and Information: The Grumman F6F Hellcat was the US Navy's dominant carrier fighter of the Second World War, and it became the very first aircraft of the Navy's new flight demonstration team. The team flew its debut show on 15 June 1946 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, led by Lieutenant Commander Roy 'Butch' Voris, and was introduced as the Blue Angels at a display in Omaha the following month. It was only the second formal military demonstration team in the world. In that first season the Hellcats were joined by an SNJ trainer painted to represent a Japanese fighter, staged as a mock dogfight. This model wears the team's original blue Hellcat scheme.
