Model History and Information: The MiG-29SMT is an upgraded version of the Fulcrum air-superiority fighter, developed to broaden the original design into a full multirole aircraft. Compared with early MiG-29s it introduced substantially increased internal fuel, a modernised glass cockpit with multifunction displays and HOTAS controls, updated radar and the ability to employ a wider range of air-to-surface precision weapons alongside its air-to-air armament. The variant was offered both as new-build aircraft and as rebuilds of existing airframes, with examples entering Russian service during the mid-2000s.
