Model History and Information: This twin-engine, two-seat multirole fighter serves the Royal Malaysian Air Force, which received eighteen examples beginning in 2007. Developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and built by Russia's Irkut Corporation, the type derives from the Indian Su-30MKI, sharing its canard layout, digital fly-by-wire controls and thrust-vectoring AL-31FP engines for supermaneuverability. Its avionics blend Russian, French and South African systems, including a Thales head-up display and targeting equipment. Configured for both air-superiority and strike roles, it carries substantial ordnance over an extended unrefueled combat radius. Malaysian Flankers are regularly shown at national aerospace exhibitions. NATO assigns the reporting name Flanker-H.
