X-62A VISTA 86-0048, USAF Test Pilot School, Edwards AFB (w/2 x AIM-120 (wing tip), 1 x AIM-9x, 1 x ACMI pod, 1 center fuel tank) (1:72 Scale)
Model History and Information: This aircraft is the Air Force's sole X-62A, a modified two-seat F-16D operated by the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base. Its VISTA simulation system lets it mimic the handling of other aircraft in flight, making it a teaching and research platform for evaluating novel control laws and, more recently, artificial-intelligence flight agents developed under a joint Air Force and DARPA effort. Following its redesignation from NF-16D in 2021, upgrades added a system for autonomous control, allowing machine-learning software to fly the jet during test sorties. The aircraft is instrumented for experimentation and does not carry or fire live munitions; any air-to-air missiles shown represent the scale model's configuration rather than an operational weapons fit.
