The A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog, is a single-seat, twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft designed for close air support of ground forces. It was developed by Fairchild Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF), and first flew in May 1972. It is the only aircraft specifically designed for close air support and has been in service with the USAF since 1977. It is armed with a Gatling gun, air-to-surface missiles, and laser-guided bombs, and is capable of delivering a wide range of ordnance.
