Model History and Information: The Audi R8 Spyder is the open-top version of the R8 sports car, which Audi introduced as a convertible in 2011, four years after the coupe's launch. Based on the first-generation R8, the Spyder retained the coupe's mid-engine layout and aluminium space-frame construction while adding a folding soft top. It was offered with Audi's naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10, producing up to roughly 550 hp depending on version, paired with a manual or automatic gearbox. Audi engineered the Spyder to add minimal weight over the coupe despite the loss of a fixed roof, preserving much of the coupe's handling and structural rigidity.
