Model History and Information: Electronic Attack Squadron 139 (VAQ-139), the "Cougars," is a US Navy electronic-warfare squadron based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Established on 1 July 1983, it originally flew the EA-6B Prowler before transitioning to the EA-18G Growler, and has deployed embarked with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen. Bureau number 168256 is a fleet Growler shown in Cougars markings as of 2025. Derived from the F/A-18F Super Hornet, the Growler is the Navy's dedicated carrier-capable electronic-attack platform, using the ALQ-218 receiver system and jamming pods to detect, identify and suppress hostile radar and communications networks. The squadron's Latin motto, Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum, translates as "If you want peace, prepare for war."
