Model History and Information: The General Dynamics F-111C was the export strike variant built to Australian requirements, pairing the F-111A fuselage with the longer wings of the F-111B and the strengthened landing gear of the FB-111A. Australia ordered twenty-four, and after prolonged development delays the Royal Australian Air Force accepted them in 1973, the first six reaching RAAF Base Amberley that July. Flown by No. 1 Squadron, the Fighting First, within No. 82 Wing, the type gave Australia a long-range, all-weather interdiction and tactical-strike capability unmatched in the region. Four airframes were later converted for reconnaissance as the RF-111C. By the mid-2000s the fleet was among the very last F-111s still flying anywhere in the world.
