Model History and Information: By the end of its career the Royal Australian Air Force's F-111C was the last operational F-111 anywhere, and its retirement on 3 December 2010 closed nearly four decades of Australian service. Flown to the end by No. 1 Squadron from RAAF Base Amberley, the Pig, as crews affectionately called it, was famous for the spectacular dump-and-burn, igniting jettisoned fuel through the afterburner in farewell flypasts. Commemorative markings carried by aircraft in the squadron's final months honoured the type's long strike and reconnaissance history before it stood down. The occasion marked the end of a distinctive swing-wing bomber that had anchored Australia's deep-strike deterrent since deliveries began in 1973.
