Model History and Information: The 36th Tactical Fighter Wing at Bitburg Air Base in West Germany was the US Air Force's first F-15 wing in Europe, receiving its first F-15A and F-15B Eagles in 1977 to counter the Soviet threat at the front line of the Cold War. One of its squadrons, the 53rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, was a long-standing member of the NATO Tiger Association, and in 1981 it hosted the NATO Tiger Meet at Bitburg. For that gathering of the alliance's 'tiger' squadrons, aircraft were decorated with bold tiger markings, and this Eagle wears the striking scheme applied for the 1981 event.
