Model History and Information: The two-seat F-15DJ is the training variant of Japan's licence-built Eagle, flown by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's dedicated aggressor unit, the Tactical Fighter Training Group. Activated in 1981 and operating the type since 1990, the group provides dissimilar air-combat training, acting as the simulated adversary against frontline JASDF squadrons. Originally stationed at Nyutabaru Air Base, it relocated to Komatsu in 2016. Its jets are known for individual, often bold camouflage schemes, and in recent years several have worn multi-tone digital patterns intended to complicate visual identification during engagements.
