Model History and Information: The F-16N was a dedicated adversary version of the Fighting Falcon acquired by the United States Navy in the mid-1980s. Built on the single-seat Block 30 airframe with a lightened structure and stripped of cannon and radar-guided missile capability, twenty-two single-seat jets plus four two-seat trainers entered service from 1987. They equipped dissimilar air combat training units, including the Navy Fighter Weapons School at Miramar, replicating agile fourth-generation threats such as the MiG-29. Fatigue from sustained high-G training led the Navy to withdraw the type by the mid-1990s. Bureau number 163269 falls within the F-16N production batch used in this adversary role during that era, flown against fleet aircrews to sharpen air-combat skills.
