Model History and Information: The F8F-2P was the photographic-reconnaissance version of the second production Bearcat model, fitted with cameras and typically operated by US Navy composite squadrons such as VC-62 in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The F8F-2 series was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp and featured a taller fin than the first model. Surviving Bearcats are prized among warbird owners and air racers today, and airworthy examples appear at flying displays in Europe and North America. This aircraft represents a restored machine flown in that warbird role, preserving the appearance of a Navy reconnaissance Bearcat of the immediate postwar period.
