Model History and Information: In September 1988 NATO staged Reforger 88, code-named Certain Challenge, the largest exercise of the Cold War and the biggest European ground manoeuvre since the Second World War, with around 125,000 troops moving across West Germany. West German Bundeswehr units took part alongside the US-based formations flown in for the exercise. KNDS, formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, identifies the Leopard 2A4 as a 55-tonne main battle tank armed with a 120 mm L44 smooth-bore cannon; this 1:72 scale edition depicts a Bundeswehr Leopard 2A4 of Panzer Battalion 361 from that exercise.
