Leopard 2A4 desert camouflage, Turkish Army 2nd Cavalry Armored Brigade, Turkey-Syria border, 2016

Product Dimensions: 5.45 x 2.02 x 1.53 in.

Model History and Information: Germany sold 354 retired Leopard 2A4 tanks to Turkey in the early 2000s, giving the Turkish Army a significant upgrade over its ageing M60 Patton fleet. In autumn 2016 the 2nd Armoured Cavalry Brigade deployed Leopard 2A4s to the Turkey-Syria border in support of Operation Euphrates Shield against Islamic State; several tanks were destroyed there by anti-tank guided missiles, exposing the type's weaker side and rear armour in a counter-insurgency role it was not designed for. KNDS, formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, identifies the Leopard 2A4 as a 55-tonne main battle tank armed with a 120 mm L44 smooth-bore cannon.
