Model History and Information: The MiG-25 Foxbat was among the fastest military aircraft ever built, and its reconnaissance and reconnaissance-bomber versions used that blistering speed and high altitude to overfly defended territory faster than most interceptors could react. The 47th Guards Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment was the first Soviet unit to operate the reconnaissance Foxbat and flew the type for decades, based in the later years at Shatalovo in western Russia. During the 1980s Shatalovo was one of seventeen airfields hosting the Soviet Union's tactical reconnaissance regiments. This aircraft represents one of the regiment's MiG-25s still in service in 2001, long after the Cold War for which the type had been designed.
