Model History and Information: This airframe represents Iraq's operation of the MiG-25 Foxbat, the stainless-steel Soviet-built reconnaissance-bomber capable of speeds near Mach 2.8 and altitudes above 20,000 metres. Iraq fielded a mix of MiG-25 interceptors and reconnaissance-bombers; during the 1991 Gulf War most were destroyed on the ground and two were shot down by US Air Force F-15s using AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. Surviving Foxbats were dispersed, camouflaged, or buried to avoid detection. During the 2003 invasion, coalition forces uncovered a MiG-25 partially buried in the desert. That recovered Iraqi aircraft is now preserved and displayed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio.
