Model History and Information: The Mirage IIICJ, known in Israeli service as the Shahak, was the Israeli Air Force's first Mach 2 fighter; 70 single-seat examples were delivered between 1962 and 1964. Squadron 117, nicknamed the “First Jet” Squadron for having flown the IAF's first jet aircraft, the Gloster Meteor, from 1953, later operated the Shahak from Ramat David Air Base. During the 1967 Six-Day War, Mirage pilots claimed the majority of the Arab aircraft downed in air combat. After France's post-war arms embargo, Israel sustained the fleet independently, and the Shahak continued front-line service into the early 1970s. This model depicts a Mirage IIICJ in 117 Squadron markings, aircraft 768, dated December 1970.
