Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.H w/Schürzen 2.Pz.Div., Normandy 1944
Product Dimensions: 3.84 x 1.57 x 1.47 in.
Model History and Information: The Panzer IV was the only German tank in continuous production from the first day of the war to the last, and it remained the mainstay of the Panzer divisions on every front. The Ausf. H, in production from June 1943, was one of the most numerous single versions and introduced the Schürzen: thin armour plates hung on rails along the hull sides and around the turret, added because Soviet 14.5 mm anti-tank rifles could penetrate the tank's thin side armour at normal combat ranges; contrary to a common belief, the plates were not an effective defence against shaped-charge weapons. Late-production examples of the following Ausf. J replaced the steel hull plates with lighter wire mesh screens and, to speed production, dropped the turret's electric traverse motor so the gunner had to turn it by hand.
