Model History and Information: The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, formed in 1964 and quickly became one of the world's most famous display teams, growing to their trademark nine-aircraft Diamond Nine formation in 1966. They flew the Folland Gnat until late 1979, when they re-equipped with the British Aerospace Hawk trainer, the type they still fly today. In 1989 the team marked twenty-five years of displays, and Hawk XX264 wore a special commemorative scheme for that anniversary season. The Red Arrows combine close-formation flying and synchronised aerobatics to showcase the skill of RAF pilots and support the service around the world.
