Model History and Information: The KV-3 was an attempt to push the Soviet heavy tank further still: up to 120 mm of sloped hull armour, a new conical turret and the powerful 107 mm ZiS-6 gun, on a lengthened version of the KV-220 hull. Series production was meant to begin in late 1941. The German invasion ended the programme before it could start: the hull that had been built was tested with ballast standing in for the turret, and the unfinished prototypes were fitted with ordinary KV-1 turrets and sent to the front, where the surviving vehicle was lost near Leningrad in December 1941.
