Model History and Information: This SE5a depicts the aircraft flown by Major Keith Logan Caldwell, a New Zealand fighter pilot who commanded No.74 Squadron RAF from the unit's base at Clairmarais, France, in 1918. Caldwell, known to his squadron as 'Grid', was credited with 11 confirmed aerial victories during the war. In September 1918 he survived a mid-air collision by climbing onto the damaged wing of his aircraft to hold the structure together while bringing it down over Allied lines, stepping clear moments before it struck the ground.
