Model History and Information: Western Star built its reputation on trucks assembled for hard use in construction, logging, mining and heavy haulage, where a chassis is expected to work far from any paved road and be repairable when it breaks. The 4700 and 4900 were the backbone of that vocational range for years, offered in set-forward and set-back axle configurations, as day cabs and sleepers, and as the base for mixers, dumps and heavy tractors. The X-Series that followed from 2020 replaced them with a lighter cab and a new chassis, but the older models remain a common sight on North American jobsites.
