Model History and Information: The Cat® 323 is Caterpillar's current 20-ton-class hydraulic excavator, closely related to the 320 platform but built for roadwork, heavy utility, and mass excavation. The version Caterpillar currently lists delivers 172 hp (128.5 kW) net power and reaches a maximum digging depth of 22.1 ft (6,730 mm) at an operating weight of about 55,100 lb (25,000 kg). Caterpillar positions the 323 on more standard factory technology than earlier models, aimed at reducing fuel and maintenance costs while raising production.
