Model History and Information: The sgSanKfz is the Bundeswehr's armoured medical variant of the Boxer 8x8, replacing older M113-based ambulances in mechanised units. Its raised, armoured hull can carry three stretcher casualties or seven walking wounded, and it can keep pace with Leopard 2 tanks and Marder or Puma infantry vehicles across difficult terrain. The Sanitatslehrregiment trained the first crews, and the type was handed over to Bundeswehr medical troops in mid-2011. Following that training, sgSanKfz vehicles deployed to Afghanistan for ISAF operations from late 2012, continuing through the following years, including 2013.
