Model History and Information: The MiG-23MLD, known to NATO as Flogger-K, was the final production version of the Soviet swing-wing fighter, introduced in 1982 with improved avionics, radar and aerodynamics. The 894th Fighter Aviation Regiment replaced its Su-9 interceptors with MiG-23s in 1979 and flew MiG-23 variants, including the MLD, from Ozerne in Zhytomyr Oblast. When the Soviet Union dissolved, the regiment passed to the Ukrainian Air Force in 1992, and its lineage continues in today's 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade. This model represents a Flogger-K wearing blue 01 in the markings of the 894th Fighter Aviation Regiment, Ukrainian Air Force, dated September 2000.
