Model History and Information: The F-35C is the carrier variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, distinguished by a larger wing, folding wingtips, strengthened landing gear and a tailhook for arrested carrier landings. The U.S. Navy declared the type operational on 28 February 2019. The U.S. Marine Corps reactivated VMFA-311, the Tomcats, in April 2023 to fly the F-35C at MCAS Miramar, and the squadron reached initial operational capability on 31 July 2024, becoming the Corps' second F-35C squadron to do so. This model represents an F-35C of VMFA-311 in United States Marine Corps service in 2024.
