Model History and Information: The RF-5E Tigereye is the reconnaissance version of the Northrop F-5E Tiger II, with a sensor package in the nose in place of the radar and one cannon. The Republic of China Air Force operated the type as its tactical reconnaissance aircraft until a farewell ceremony at Hualien Air Base on 4 July 2025. A five-aircraft formation of three RF-5Es and two F-5Fs flew over Hualien before a ceremonial water salute, and an order deactivating the RF-5Es was read. Future reconnaissance is to be handled by drones and pod-equipped F-16s. This model represents RF-5E serial 5504 at Hualien Air Base, dated 4 July 2025.
