Model History and Information: The A-4M Skyhawk II was the final and most capable production version of Douglas's compact attack jet, developed specifically for the US Marine Corps. It introduced a more powerful J52-P-408 engine, an enlarged cockpit, improved avionics and an IFF system, and many later received the Hughes angle-rate bombing system; 158 were built. Marine Attack Squadron 131, nicknamed the Diamondbacks, was a Marine Forces Reserve unit that flew the Skyhawk under the QG tail code and operated from Naval Air Station Willow Grove. Reactivated in 1958, the squadron served until its deactivation in December 1998. An aircraft like this represents the Skyhawk's long twilight in reserve Marine attack service during the early 1990s.
