Model History and Information: At the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942, three US Navy torpedo squadrons attacked the Japanese carrier force in their obsolescent Douglas TBD Devastators. Torpedo Squadron 6 flew from USS Enterprise under Lieutenant Commander Eugene Lindsey, who pressed the attack despite injuries from an earlier crash landing. Like the other squadrons, VT-6 went in low and without effective fighter cover, and it was cut to pieces, losing ten of its fourteen aircraft, Lindsey among the dead. Though none of the torpedoes found their mark, the torpedo bombers' sacrifice pulled the Japanese defences down to sea level and cleared the way for the American dive bombers. This model represents Lindsey's VT-6 Devastator.
