The F-4E Phantom II is a two-seat, twin-engine, supersonic, all-weather, long-range fighter-bomber aircraft developed by the American aircraft manufacturer McDonnell Douglas. The F-4E was widely used by the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Vietnam War and remained in service with the USAF and other air forces for several decades after the conflict. The F-4E was equipped with a wide range of weapons and had a large internal fuel capacity, making it suitable for a variety of missions, including air-to-air combat, air-to-ground strikes, and reconnaissance.

The 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS) was a unit of the United States Air Force that operated the F-4E Phantom II. The 469th TFS was based at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand and was a part of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing. The squadron's mission was to provide air support to ground troops and to conduct air-to-air and air-to-ground missions in support of military operations in Southeast Asia. The 469th TFS flew numerous combat missions during the Vietnam War and made significant contributions to the efforts of the United States and its allies in the region. The unit was eventually deactivated after the conflict ended.
