Model History and Information: The MiG-29UB is the two-seat conversion-trainer version of the MiG-29 Fulcrum, first flown in 1981. It keeps the single-seat fighter's twin-engine layout and rear-hinged tandem canopy, though its forward fuselage was reshaped for a second cockpit and its fire-control radar was removed, leaving the aircraft flyable and weapon-capable but without the standard intercept radar. Iran received Soviet-built MiG-29s, including two-seat UB trainers, starting in 1990 as Soviet forces withdrew aircraft from Eastern Europe, and its fleet grew further in 1991 when Iraqi Air Force MiG-29s flew to Iran to avoid destruction during the Gulf War.
